2010 Scholarship Winners
CENTRAL REGION RECEIPIENT
The recipient from the Central Region is Matthew R. Janiak who will be continuing on with a Fire Science program at Rockland or Sussex Community College. Matthew is a five year member of the Pine Island Fire Department. He has completed FF I and is certified as an interior firefighter. Matthew was Firefighter Rookie of the year in 2009.
EAST REGION RECEIPIENT
The recipient from the East Region is Nicholas J. Krebser will be furthering his career in the Fire Science field. Matthew has been accepted to the University of New Haven, Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences as a Fire/Arson Investigation major. Matthew has been a member of the Briarcliff Manor Fire Department since 2008 and is also a member of the Briarcliff Manor Ambulance Corps. He has completed FF I, Introduction to Fire Officer I, Fire Officer I and Haz-Mat First Responder Operations. Matthew has been on the Honor Roll for all four years of high school.
WEST REGION RECEIPIENT
The recipient from the West region is Stephanie K. DeWaele. Stephanie is going to continue her education in the nursing field. She is a volunteer firefighter with the Junius Volunteer Fire Department as well as a member of the North Senece Ambulance. Stephanie has completed FF I, Firefighter Survival F.A.S.T. and is a Certified First Responder. Stephanie is a member of the National Honor Society as well as on the National Honor Roll. She is a nursing assistant at the Geneva General Hospital. She is fourth in a class of 157 with a grade point average of 94.217. The decision for the West recipient was a difficult one and it came down to a tie breaker with the committee.
